1989 Acousticaster Static

Hi I'm Norm, I own a 1989 Godin Acousticaster and I love the guitar but recently when plugging it in it makes what I would describe as loud static or hissing noise.
The battery is good and all connections to the circuit board are intact.
It has sound but the hissing makes it unusable.
Any advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
