  • Ribbon Transducer hum

    Dear all,

I have a 1996 Seagull with a LR Baggs ribbon transducer. The thing is, it has a low hum the moment I plug it in. If I touch the metal of the output jack, or endpin as I think you need to call it, the hum is gone. So I suppose this has to do with a grounding problem, right? The question remains, how to solve this.
I know the product is discontinued and also quite old but if there is some easy fix I would love to hear about it.

    Thanks!

My guess is that the pickup itself is starting to delaminate. The pickup has a few layers, and if the layers come apart, the pickup can hum. If that's the case it will probably be necessary to replace the pickup itself. The RT has been out of production for some time, so it might be best to upgrade the whole system with something newer.
