I'm noticing that when while playing, there is a loss in volume that occurs intermittently. All connections are good, the jack is brand new and I've changed batteries a few times. It's frustrating when in the middle of a gig my guitar gets drowned out in the mix. Could there be an issue with the pickup?

Have you changed out your cables yet?
If the jack is good, and the internal connections to the preamp are solid, then it's difficult to say what the issue might be. From what you're saying, it sounds like a physical connection issue. Loosening the strings and reaching into the guitar to test individual connections (while plugged in) should be a good test.
If that doesn't cause any cutting out, then I would double check the external connections.
