  • New M1A

    Hi,
I just ordered an M1A. It should be here Wednesday. I'm excited. I plan on putting it my Martin 000-15S.

Bryan, Having a problem fitting it the soundhole. Suggestions? The diameter of the soundhole is 3 13/16'. It is a Martin 000-15S.

        Hi MikeW,

The clamps that slide up and down in their tracks require some clearance. For soundholes under a certain diameter, and it sounds like yours is in this category, it will be necessary to remove one of the clamps from its slide-track so the pickup can be rested in place. Once set in the hole, the clamp can be slid back into its track, threaded to the screw and tightened up as normal.

Please reply if that isn't clear.

            Bryan,

That did the trick. Sucessfully installed. Could not get the clips on the wire. My hands are to big. What a really great sound. I replaced an I beam passive which sounded a little thin in this guitar.

One more question. If I want just a touch more volume on the lower E string, how much should I turn the pole piece? This is more my style of playing than the pickup.

              Hi Mike,

It depends on how close the exposed pole pieces are to your strings. Guitar setups can vary considerably from player to player. If they are close enough, it may limit how much you can raise the low E pole before the string touches it while vibrating. If you're close to that, you may need to lower the other five in order to increase the one. Adjust to taste.

I think I will lower the other 5. I thinking about 1/8 of a turn to start.
