  • Lyric with Venue DI

    Hi,

I have a Lyric installed in a Martin D15, which I've then plugged into a Venue DI. Sounds a little tinny to me. Can anyone suggest any settings to get the full Martin sound?

What amp or PA system are you playing through? The Venue can definitely help to get a better sound, but it sounds like you may have other things to deal with first.

I'm not using an amp, I'm using it for recording! The output from the Venue DI is connected to the input on an AVID MBox Pro 3, for ProTools recording on a Mac. The Lyric sounds fantastic on its own through a Shertler Acoustic amp, but sounds a little weak when recording. I got the Venue DI to add a little beef, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips for starters?

        Ok,
Tone is extremely subjective, but in general, if you boost the bass and lower mids (around 500-600Hz), you can beef it up a little. If you wanted to post a sound sample, I could probably give you some more specific advice.

Venue DI and Lyric on a D15

I have put an audio file on SoundCloud. The guitar has been recorded with all of the Venue DI setting in the middle, notch is off. Any ideas for a fuller sound?

That definitely sounds thinner than it should. Do you know where the mic is positioned inside the guitar?

The guitar tech installed it exactly according to the instructions, and it sounds absolutely brilliant through a Shertler acoustic guitar amp, by the way!

I think boosting the bass would be a good start (set at around 2 o'clock, give or take). Then maybe bringing up the 500-600Hz range too.

That should add some more warmth and low end.

Also, if you haven't experimented with the Presence Control on the Lyric, it might be worth a look. If the Presence is set to high, the whole system will sound a bit harsh. If the Presence is set too low, it can sound a little dark.
