  • Lyric Midrange Honk (Clips, Photos Included)

At times it sounds like I have a notch wah on. Careful when you listen to this recording, it's a little quiet and SoundCloud tends to autoplay to the next track. https://soundcloud.com/jazzmac251/untitled-2

It was recorded direct to my desktop via AxeFX 2, no FX of any kind.

    Here's how it's installed: 2013-12-29 21.29.57.jpg

That definitely sounds thin. The lack of bass is very unusual too. I'm assuming that it sounds the same without the AxeFX in the signal chain, is that right?

Also, have you adjusted the mic's presence control?

It actually sounds much better through the AxeFX than through a standard acoustic amp.

I have adjusted the Presence control. That didn't help much. What did help a bit, though, was moving the Lyric closer to the endpins. I'm not sure if my bridge plate is smaller than usual or what, but there just wasn't much room for the mic to be mounted. If you can see from the picture above, the edge of the mic is hovering close to the edge of the bridge plate. I moved it over, and that helped a bit, but I'm still getting some really weird, "washy" midrange artifacts. It almost sounds like something is out of phase. I know this mic is supposed to correct for reflections from within the inside of the body. Maybe it doesn't like what it's hearing from my guitar?

The spectrum around ~600Hz is just a MESS. I can hear there's some great tone in here somewhere, though. Wonder if it's my install, my Lyric, or my guitar...

        Ok,
In the few guitars where I've heard that "washy" midrange sound, moving the mic towards the treble side of the plate (parallel with the brace), makes a big difference.

If you need more adhesives, you can email me at [email protected].

Let me know how it goes, if you are able to try that out.

Great! Thanks for the tips! I'll try it out as soon as I can.
