  • Godin Acousticaster pickup humming. How to fix?

    Hi there,

My Acousticaster has recently started humming, sounding just like a grounding problem on a regular electric guitar. My guitar tech has checked out all the wiring and connections which are all fine. He has traced the source of the hum to the under saddle pickup itself. If you touch the saddle the hum increases. If you press firmly down on the saddle the hum stops completely.

He thinks there may be a delamination problem between the saddle and the pickup itself. Has anyone experienced a similar issue and can it be repaired. If not repairable, does anyone know what the pickup is in an Acousticaster? Godin says its a proprietary pickup, but I assume its an LR Baggs LB6.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hey Mark,
You're absolutely right, that's our LB6. If the pickup is delaminating from the saddle, then it will need to be replaced.

We still make the LB6, so it shouldn't be too difficult.

      Hi Caleb,

Thanks so much for the response. Looks like I'll be shopping for a new pickup then! The sound of the Godin Acousticaster is wonderful, so i am pleased that a replacement pickup is readily available.

Out of interst, what is the repair process for a delaminating pickup?

      Thanks,

      Mark

Unfortunately, once the LB6's saddle separates from the brass sensor bar, it cannot be repaired. So if that is the issue, the only option would be replacement.
