  • Recent Lyric problem.

    Hi,

I've had the Lyric for quite a few months now. Originally I had it fitted in a Stonebridge OM22CM. I had it sounding great, but was a little difficult for the live stuff I was doing at the time with a full band, so I reverted back to an M1A in that guitar.

I've since installed it into a Gitane D250M for gypsy jazz. Again, it was sounding great! Just a little boost in the bass and it was sounding very natural and very responsive. For some reason, today, it now sounds absolutely terrible. It's lost all it's naturalness, and now sounds extremely boxy, even distorting when played anything like loudly. It's like something's broken. I've checked all the obvious things, tried different leads, a new battery, checked input levels, checked the pickup is still attached properly etc. It's quite frustrating, as I'm in the middle of some recording at the moment, and it was sounding so good just yesterday! Could the Lyric have developed a fault?

    Bryan.

    Hey Bryan,
It is possible that something in the preamp went out, but that would be pretty rare if that was the case.

Since the issue began, have you had a chance to try it again?

If you want to correspond faster, you can email me at [email protected].

        Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Been a bit busy with other projects the last few days, so not had a chance to have another check, but will do today. I'll let you know how I get on.

        Cheers,
        Bryan

          All sorted...

          Hi,
I hate it when people do that. 'I'll let you know how I get on..." and then don't. Sorry.

I think it must have been either the placement in the guitar, or maybe the adhesive tape (3m) I used wasn't thick enough, causing some vibration on the mic.

I've had it in and out a few times since then, and its fine. I've now got it paired with a passive M1 and the the combination is just the best I've ever had/heard. I have it through a K&K Dual Channel Pro Stereo preamp, (relying on the bottom end of the M1 and the mid and top end of the Lyric using the internal mixer), then into Venue DI for any extra tweaking depending on the gig. Plenty of stage volume - no problems with feedback. Full, rich, expressive sound.

Sorry again for the long delay in response...!

          Many thanks for your help,
          Bryan.
