  • LYRIC ACOUSTIC GUITAR MICROPHONE - Wondering if a pre-amp is needed

Hi all - I installed the Lyric in my Martin 00-DB and use a fishman performance amp. The sound is great overall, however there is an underlying hollowness or slight 'hallway type echo' sound (struggling to describe this) that makes me feel the sound could be fuller. I do not have a pre-amp and wondering if that will help. If so, any recommendations? Thanks!

    Hey Chris,
The Lyric actually has a preamp built into it. So an additional preamp probably won't be what you're looking for.

It sounds to me like you need to do some simple EQ'ing to balance out the tone a little more. The EQ on the Loudbox Performer is pretty simple, so it won't be as precise as you probably need. But you can still try to use it to improve the tone a bit.

If you had an EQ with sweepable mids, you could try to hit some more precise points like 300Hz. That frequency can commonly sound honky in acoustic guitars.

Thanks Caleb, I bought a venue! And trying to alter the sound a bit based on recommendation above. When you say hit 300Hz, do you mean set low mid to 300Hz?

Yes. I would recommend using the low-mid to reach the 300Hz range. Then you will still have the high-mid to deal with any additional mid-range issues.
