  • Re-using the Bass, Treble, and Volume control holes in a Taylor

Hi, Taylor has had its Expression system out for well over a decade now and a lot of the older ES-1 3 volt units and even some of the 9V units are starting to crap out. I've seen the TruPlug and other retrofit systems that "plug" the control holes, but has anyone come up with a set of controls that will fit in these holes and control an Anthem, or anthem SL type of pickup? I've got a 2006 Taylor that needs the electronics replaced, and I'd love to find a way to use those holes rather than put "Band-Aids" on them.

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hey Greg,
As far as I know, nobody has come up with a ES retrofit yet. I've talked with a few people who have changed out the pots on the Element VTC and put traditional volume and tone pots into 2 of the 3 holes. I haven't seen anyone do much more than that though.

Systems like the Anthem are much more difficult to retrofit alternate pots with. So I've never seen that done.

Caleb, do you have the wiring diagram used to convert the Element VTC to discrete pots & caps. I think you may have sent that to me a long, long time ago, but I have not located it yet.
