  • Using effects pedals with an Anthem pickup

I have an electro acoustic fitted with an Anthem pickup. Does anyone have any experience of running this through effects pedals? I'm currently running through a Fishman Aura Spectrum DI, Vox Wah, Boss GE-7 EQ and a clean boost but am keen to add a Boss BD2 Blues Driver into the mix. Concerned about how this will turn out with this pickup and wondering if anyone here has tried it or something similar. Feedback is obviously the main thing I'm wary of.

    Thanks

    Hey bigstueyt,
I've used my Anthem with a number of effects, with varying degrees of success. The nice thing about the Anthem is that you can always roll the mic out of the signal if the wah or overdrive gets the mic to squeal. Low frequency feedback is a little more difficult to deal with, but depending on the guitar, it's often not an issue at all.

You should be able to mess with your settings at a lower volume to test your boundaries.

The only time I was able to get my Anthem to feed back was with a fuzz pedal. It didn't sound very good

Hi Caleb_Elling, thanks for your reply. I've managed to get it to squeal with the wah at it's highest frequency, but I'm going straight into a mixer/PA at the moment and I think acoustics-wise that's not going to be the best option. I should play around with learning how to quickly switch to just piezo in the case of feedback - only time I amplify at the moment is on gig nights so I sort of have to go in at the deep end and hope for the best.

Thanks for your help, I'm going to try it with a BD-2 and Wah combo, which I fully expect to sound ropey, but we'll see how we go.

      Will report back
