  • M80 with stereo cable

Hi, I recently got myself M80, and noticed that the jack to the actual pickup is stereo, so I presume the end pin would be also stereo? If this is the case, is there any benefit of using or loss of not using the stereo cable (e.g Y cable to two channel) oppose to using the usual mono cable?

    Regards,

    Boris

    Hey Boris,
The M80 doesn't actually have a stereo output. The jack is stereo so that when you plug a standard (mono) instrument cable into it, it turns the pickup on. Using a stereo cable into the M80 jack will not turn the pickup on at all.

        Hi!

Piggybacking off this, if I may - I am intending to purchase a high-quality pickup that I do not have to install at the strap pin. I am wondering if I would need a stereo (mini) 1/8" jack >to > mono (standard) 1/4" jack? Would this work?

        Thanks in advance!

A 1/8"(stereo) to 1/4" (mono) cable would work in the Passive mode of the pickup, but in the Active mode it would drain the battery at all times. In order to use the M80, in active mode, with the cable coming out of the soundhole, you would want a male 1/8" to female 1/4", with both sides stereo. Then when you plugged a mono patch cable into the female/stereo jack, it would turn the pickup on. Unplugging the patch cable would turn the pickup off and preserve the battery.
