Electric guitar strings

Can I use electric guitar strings for my acoustic guitar? Will they be too light?

People have used electric guitar string on acoustic guitars for a long time. The tone is quite a bit different, but some people like it. Some companies also make nickel strings specifically for acoustic guitars, as more of a hybrid. It's all a matter of personal preference.
