  • Help with pedalboard and FX Loop

    Hello,

I have recently been experimenting with new pedals on my acoustic guitar. I have built a pedalboard with the following chain:

Gibson J-35 --- Bypass Tuner --- Cry Baby Wah --- TC Electronics Hall of Fame Mini Reverb --- Digitech Hardwire DL-8 Delay/Looper --- L.R. Baggs Para DI input.

I'd like to know if/how I should utilize the FX loop on the Para DI to get the best sound/utilization of effects possible. Can you help me out with this?

    Thank you!!!

    Hey Joe,
I assume that your J-35 still has the factory equipped Element Active in it. If that’s the case, you shouldn’t need to use the FX Loop on your Para DI. You can definitely try it if you want, but I don’t think you’ll hear much of a difference.

The main advantage of the FX Loop is when you have a passive pickup in your guitar. In that situation, the passive pickup can plug into the preamp on the DI’s input first, which will boost the signal and lower the impedance. Then running all of your other pedals in the Loop will insure that they all get a strong, healthy signal to process. Since the Element Active has an onboard preamp already, you should be able to plug into your tuner, and other pedals before the DI, and get the same sound quality.

    I hope that helps.
