  • Difference between Session DI, Venue DI, Para DI?!

I am new to this forum as well as the world of the sound passed on electronically. I play a nylon strings guitar and am getting into amplification process. I read through each of these pedals on the website yet, due to lack of my knowledge about different terms and effects each pedal displaces, I thought to ask a forum of knowledgable people who could probably summarize it for me and give me an idea what I am paying for if I choose Venue DI over other 2 pedals or what I am missing if I choose Venue DI or Para DI instead of Session.

    Thank you,

    Hello Andrei,

The Venue and the Para DI use EQ to shape the sound from the guitar. Between those two, the Venue has more EQ options, as well as additional features like the boost, tuner, and isolated DI output. The Para DI is a bit simpler, but still very useful, and a very popular unit.

The Session DI doesn't use any traditional EQ. It uses multi-band compression and saturation to shape the tone of the guitar. So the controls are not as precise, but they also add a texture and depth to the sound that you can't really get from EQ.

I will say if you play nylon string guitars, the Session is more specifically tuned for steel string guitars. It will work on classical guitars, but not quite as well. The Venue DI and Para DI are more universal and will work equally well on steel and nylon guitars.

    I hope that helps.

      Hello Caleb,

Thank you for your response. I will trust your explanation on this matter as you sound like you know exactly what you are talking about. I am currently in Edinburgh, Scotland and did not see any dealers of L.R. Baggs products in here so I will most likely not be able to try these pre-amps out prior to a purchase. Again, thank you for your time and explanation!
