  • EAS VTC & Session DI or Para?

Hi All, New here to forum and looking for some suggestions. My current setup for live is a 2001 Tacoma dread with Stagepro Element and a Breedlove permier Concert Mahogany with the EAS VTC System. For DI I am using the Session DI. I really like the sound from both pickup systems but not sure the Session DI is doing me any favors. It's hard to dial in a nice sound. I find it a little shrill at times and lacks warmth. I am wondering if anyone with similar pickups have compared the Session DI and the PARA DI and which is preferred. I havebeen running the session comp at around 10-11 and the saturation at 9. Input gain set properly and notch adjusted.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks, Rob

I use the Session DI and I love it, but if you need a good amount of specific EQ for your guitar, no setting on the Session is going to make up for it. You should be able to get quite a bit of warmth and clarity from the Session, but if your overall signal is thin then some additional EQ would be really helpful.

You may want to consider getting something like the Align EQ to use with the Session DI, rather than just ditching the Session completely for the Para DI. The Align EQ (or similar) would let you dial in a better tone to start with by taming problem frequencies and bringing up anything that is lacking. With that foundation, the Session would be the "polish" to further refine the signal.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hate the thought of another pedal, especially a non phantom powered. I am a bit of a minimalist. That being said, the extra eq options is a good idea so maybe I'll insert a rack eq at the board that I have and see what happens. I had also seen others run into the Venue to the Session then to board. Maybe that is why.

If you have a good EQ available at your board, that should work great too! Many players don't have access to the board, so a pedal is easier to access. A rack EQ should be more than enough to really dial-in your sound.
