Lyric Tone Linked To Volume?

When I adjust the volume wheel of the Lyric in my Guild dreadnought, the tone also changes. Low volume brings out the "presence" range of highs, and high volume depresses them. Presumably, one can outboard-EQ either sound. However, I can't adjust volume onstage - more than a small amount - without noticeably changing the tone. Is this part of the design, or is something wrong? If it is part of the design, that information should be added to the rather sparse info that comes with the unit. Thanks for any help. Apologies if this question is dealt with elsewhere, but after more than half an hour, I gave up searching through all the previous posts.
