Batteries in Pro Stage Element drains without being plugged in

I bought an new Alvarez guitar with a stage pro element preamp system in 2016. I checked to make sure that the electronics worked when I bought it, but then I only played it acoustically and never used the pick-up until about 4 months ago when I started gigging again.

I now find that the system drains my battery between uses, even after a couple of days, despite it being unplugged from the 1/4" jack. I have wasted 3 new batteries before I accepted that the problem was not bad batteries

Is there anything I can fix or do I have to take it to dealer?
