I had a Session VTC installed and now I get distortion if I dig in. Saturation is off. Level on input on Mixer is set properly. Is if defective?

It's not likely that anything is faulty. I have seen some guitars that just output a lot louder, and because of that, the Saturation is not able to be turned down to a usable level. Changing the saddle material is often the only way to change this response in those specific guitars.

Yeah, changing the saddle material is probably the only option to potentially make the Session VTC work in that guitar. If you wanted to try something, I would recommend Micarta as an alternate material. It sounds like that guitar is making the pickup output pretty loud though.
