  • Lyric string scratching sound prblem

Hi L.R. Baggs friends here, I recently installed my Lyric (for steel string guitars) myself on the standard position of my guitar and had a little problem with its capturing too much sound of scratching strings especially on the thicker ones. The sound of scratching from the amp is a bit too loud, sometimes it's even bigger than some gentle fingerpicking sound, so I assume it's not normal...This didn't happen when I was using my last Fisherman pickup.
Is there a way to reduce that? I've tried to adjust its presence as the manual told me, and it didn't help very much. Turning it clockwise is enhancing the problem a lot by making the sound of the guitar too sharp, and turning it counterclockwise won't help much on reducing scratching but will make the sound boxy which I don't want.
I'm using Martin DX1RAE and plugging it straight into an amp, EQ setting is bass slightly down, mid and treble in the middle.

Maybe it has something to do with the string I'm using? I've used Martin FX(012) strings for quite a while.

I'm from China so forgive for all the grammar mistakes.

    Hello Ian,
It actually sounds to me like the Lyric is working as designed. Since the Lyric is a mic and not a pickup, it will naturally amplify everything that the guitar does- including the string noise. Changing your strings may make a difference, but I think that you would get the same response from any external condenser mic.

If the overall tone of the Lyric sounds like the guitar (not too boxy or too sharp), then it's very likely that there is nothing wrong with the Lyric. It's just not a pickup.

      Thanks for the reply!
I went to a pub last night and plug into their better equipments, and it sounded really amazing. Seems like the problem is on the amps in my school's rehearsal room. Glad the lyric works perfectly!
