Can you tell me what you're playing through? (i.e. pedals, amp, PA, etc.)

        OK,
Without using any EQ, the M1A, like most magnetic pickups, is going to sound pretty mid-heavy (even honky sometimes). Using some precise EQ is usually the best way to smooth out the sound and get a more natural tone.

Apart from EQ or other tone shaping, the M1A just has a very unique sound. For my own preference, it is a little too unnatural. However, the M1A is highly regarded by a lot of players for it's unique tonal quality. I have hear it sound really good, it's just not my cup of tea.

        I hope that helps.

If you were going to use some EQ, I would recommend a cut around 300-400 Hz, and maybe another at around 1.5k to 2.5k Hz.
