Ok,
If you lost some tonal response and nothing else has changed, then it's possible that something is broken.
If you want to email me at [email protected], I can give you some options for repair.

Hi Brian,
There's really not too much that can go wrong within the pickup itself. However, it might be possible that part of the coil has been disconnected inside the pickup. If you take a screwdriver and tap on the poles, you should be able to tell if they are still producing sound. If they are working normally, they should click (pretty loudly) when touched with the screwdriver. If they don't make much noise, then that would indicate a potential issue with the top coil.
Is this a problem that you've always had with the M1A? or is this a new issue?
Also what guitar/strings are you using?
Let me know, and I'll see what I can do.
