Tips to get the best out of my M1 and Para DI

Hi. I play a Guild D30 which is very full sounding. I can't seem to translate that with the M1 and Para DI combo. I know the M1 tends to be a little mid heavy/harsh. Even with the mids all the way down on the Para DI I can't seem to get it right. Any tips? Pole piece adjustment? Pickup sound hole placement? Para DI eqing tips? Thanks

When you say that you are cutting the mids all the way, are you just turning down the "mid" knob? Or are you using the "kHz" knob with it to dial in a specific frequency?

On the Para DI, the "kHz" knob selects the frequency that the "mid" knob will boost or cut. Using the "kHz" knob to find the most offensive mid frequency on your M1 should be the best way to dial out that harsh tone.

I think that setting the "kHz" knob around 1.2-1.6 should be a good place to start looking.

You may also be able to use the "notch" and the "GADB" knobs as well to cut a lower undesirable frequency in the same way.

Hi. Yes I have kHz knob at about 1.3 and the mids knob all the way down. It helps, but not enough for my taste. Any suggested setting to start with on the notch knob? Any advice on the pole pieces? Would that help at all? Thanks

Lowering the pole pieces would definitely reduce the string sensitivity by a little bit. That could reduce a little bit more of the "magnetic" tone of the pickup. It varies from guitar to guitar.

The Notch works the same way as the Mid, like I mentioned. The way that I use both of those is to turn up the mid or notch knob to 2-3 o'clock, then sweep the kHz or GADB knob back and forth to find the worst frequency in that given range. Once you find the nastiest frequency, then you can cut the mid/notch knob to your taste. The notch really isn't designed to be an EQ band, since it has a pretty narrow bandwidth. It should have a decent effect on the right frequency though.
