  • IBeam problem

I wrote to support about this, but then realized maybe I can get an answer here.

I played a show last night with my iBeam active. It’s an old one that was installed probably 20 years ago, before the volume knob was available. I noticed the volume fluctuating quite a bit a few times. The battery is new. Could this be the preamp cutting in and out? I’m hoping that maybe I can just replace that part rather than having to install a whole new system. I have seen the preamp for sale separately. Also, does anyone know how I would connect it? Would I have to solder? Thanks.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the jack is cutting out, especially if it's been close to 20 years. If you buy the iBeam pre, you would just need to desolder the pickup from the old preamp and solder it onto the new one. That will give you the soundhole volume control too.
