  • New install of Anthem system - static noise

I just installed an Anthem system (preamp/mic/piezo undersaddle pickup) and there is continual static popping in the output. This is with neither the pickup nor mic plugged in. I had the output, mic and pickup wires neatly wrapped around each other before testing, but separated them to see if the static subsided. It didn't. If I unplug the instrument cable from the Baggs jack, it's quiet, so the problem has to be in the preamp, output wire or jack. Help!

              Thanks for posting.

Does the static start as soon as you plug in? Or does it take a few minutes to start up?

Does it change if you blend more toward the mic or the pickup?

Let me know and I will do what I can to help.

It's a bit random but generally starts within a few seconds of plugin. I tested with both mic and pickup disconnected and still got the crackling popping sounds. And the blend doesn't affect it either.

If you tap on the battery connection where the battery snap connects to the battery, does that make noise through the amp/PA?

Roughly how old is your Anthem?
