Been playing music for over 30 years and have worked with tons of gear. I just purchased the Anthem SL as a replacement to my 22-year-old LR Baggs Double Barrel system that is very similar in the arrangement. Saddle mic sounds pretty much as you would expect and scales well with volume. However, once I start to mix in the Tru-mic I noticed distortion with bass chords while playing with my fingers. Playing chords with a pick can also stimulate the distortion. I used a brand new battery and installed the pickup exactly as the documentation suggested. Unfortunately, the sweet spot is somewhere between 50%-75% clockwise Tru-mic position. I can't get there with this pickup. I'm inclined to change the position significantly from the suggested position. Any ideas?

Thanks, for getting back to me Caleb_Elling. As I said in the post above, the battery is brand new and the saddle mic is perfect even with higher volumes. It's a certain gain level that's too low for good quality out of the unit in my guitar. I need to be approximately 40% hotter on the Tru mic in order for the unit to be a viable option for my guitar. I've listened to it unplugged for about 22 years and there are no weird rattles or distortions.
I will double check the wires but I secured them quite well. I will especially double check the Tru mic's wires. I secured them as per the instructions though.

It sounds to me like the mic might be picking up a rattle of some kind, either in the guitar or from the mic itself. Do you have all of the internal wires pretty well secured?
Also, if you listen to the unplugged sound are you able to hear any rattles?
And, if you haven't done so yet, it would be a good idea to double check and make sure that the battery is good.

One more thing to note. 22 years ago the professional who installed my LR Baggs double barrel placed it on the back side of the acoustic nearly dead center. The double barrel came with a small condenser mic. I'm tempted to try that position again because I didn't have this problem with that mic.Comment

You can definitely try a different placement to try and get less energy from the top. I've never seen a situation where the mic actually clipped, but I don't know that it's impossible.
As far as placement goes, I would just try positioning it off of the bridge plate, directly to the top. The Double Barrel mic faced away from the mounting surface, while the Tru-Mic faces the mounting surface. So placing the Anthem mic on the back wouldn't sound very good at all.Comment

Caleb_Elling Good news. I was able to resolve the issue and the Anthem sounds great. I was able to use it this last weekend at church. It picks up the natural tone of my guitar so much better than my old system. Super excited to keep using it! Thanks for all your help!Comment
