  • Beginner needing help with the M80

    Hi!

I'm very much a beginner with all the mixers, amps, sound pickups and everything high tech, but I recently bought an M80 because I want to stream playing my acoustic guitar. I installed it without any problems, but when I plugged it in my Yamaha AG06 mixer with a 1/4 Inch TRS to XLR cable, it didn't work. I made sure the phantom power was on and tried pretty much all the buttons on my mixer to try to figure it out, but nothing. Then finally, I plugged the guitar in my Cloud Lifter (out of curiosity), and lo and behold, it worked.

Now my question is: Is this safe for my equipment? Why do I need extra power for the pickup? Am I using the wrong cable? I assumed it would work by itself with my mixer, so I'm very surprised that it's not, and I'm worried that I'm doing something wrong.

Any help or tips would be very much appreciated!

    Hey jissap,
    Thanks for posting.

The M80 only works in active mode when a TS cable is plugged into the output jack on the guitar. If you plug a TRS cable into the jack, the pickup will not turn on. Even using a simple adapter like the Hosa GPP-151 would be all you would need to adapt the TRS/XLR cable you have to the M80. Otherwise, just a simple TS cable should be all you need.

    I hope this helps.
