Painting M80 Cover

I am considering the purchase of an M80. Is is possible to remove the cover of the M80 so that it can be painted black to match my all black Rainsong guitar.

The M80's cream colored face-plate can be removed. The M1 and M80 covers are the same material, and I've seen several people paint their M1 covers with no problems at all.

You might consider black vinyl tape.

There's also a product called Vinyl Dye from VHT. A thread about this on another forum said that it dyed the plastic instead of coating it. Nothing to chip or scratch.
