How to configure the M1A for non-strapjack use

I just purchased an M1A yesterday from Nicholson Music in Folsom, CA. I have a special edition Martin, and I don't want to modify the guitar by enlarging the endpin. May I ask for suggestions please on how to use the pickup with an external cable, including cable type, placement, etc.?

EDIT: The pickup came with the strapjack assembly, but no other cables.
