Very muddy VPs

Playing a little softer can definitely make a big difference. Another thing is to make sure that the phone/mic isn't too close to the guitar or soundhole. Positioning the mic about 8-10" away from the guitar, pointed around the 14th fret is usually a good place to start.
i suggest making sure the mic's on your iPhone are lint free. i had a bit of an issue with that, also remove the cover from your phone -- mine sounded odd when i made them with the cellphone cover on. but i'd first try and get the dust out of the mic's of your iPhone.
Brand new phone no lint, no cover.

Very muddy VPs
I just made my first VP on a V8 iPhone. I have a Washburn WCG55CE-0 with a Fishman 501T Presys+. It sounds awful. I spent hours working with the EQ to get something that sounds like this, https://www.reverbnation.com/ernestwhaley/song/33339287-mixdown-vpdi-wash-3-01-start-audio
What is the proper procedeure to create a VP on a guitar with an active pickup. It has bass mid and treble, adjustment, a notch filter, a brilliance knob, and phase button. Do I turn everything to minimum/maximum, no idea what to do with the notch. The initial VP was boomy, muddy. I will be making another and following some advice in the forum, "play softer, tap lighter" any other suggestions?Tags: None
