  • Pedalboard help

Ok so this is going to be a pretty big setup but hopefully I can explain this so it can be understood. I have a really big pedalboard and the way I have it working is

    Guitar<>wireless pack<>Polytune 3 tuner in bypass<>VPDI<>1/4 jack out<>blues distortion pedal<>Boss DD-20<>Sessions DI<>TC Play Acoustic<>amp or mixer

In the effects send I have the Boss MD500<>Strymon BigSky<>Boss DD500<>VPDI. They are controlled with a midi pedal.

If I take the return out from the VPDI I can get a signal all the way through but the distortion is not coming through on that part. As soon as I put the return back in the signal completely dies. I'm at a loss and have checked all of them to make sure it should be sending signal. Any ideas?

I'm struggling with understanding your setup...Why do you use the efx loop on the VPDI when you don't use the XLR out? It's effectively the same as just connecting it after the VPDI.

But, the signal being muted when you complete the efx curcuit sounds like you're either connected backwards, or something is wrong in that chain. What happens when you just connect a straight cable in the exf loop?

I haven't tried anything else in the effects return. I used the XLR off the TC play acoustic. I may just run it straight from there VPDI and skip the effects loop

Not sure what you mean by anything else in the return...? Your efx loop is connected like this? VPDI send -> MD500 ....etc....-> VPDI return?

In your setup I'd probably just connect the tuner to the loop send on the VPDI. That way it gets the signal from the guitar without being in the chain.

Hi! I have a similar set up where I have multiple effects in the efx send and return of my VPDI, then I 1/4 jack out to another pedal and then XLR out of the last pedal.

It sounds like there might be an issue with MD500-Big sky, DD500 chain if the signal dies when the efx chain is complete. Maybe try connecting everything in a chain directly after another via 1/4 without using the efx loop? The menus are not that intuitive...If the signal is fine, then maybe there's an issue with your effects loop? I have DD500 and RV500 and understand that sometime a hidden setting kills my signal without my knowing

          So:

          Guitar<>wireless pack<>Polytune 3 tuner in bypass<>VPDI<>1/4 jack out<>Boss MD500<>Strymon BigSky<>Boss DD500<>blues distortion pedal<>Boss DD-20<>Sessions DI<>TC Play Acoustic<>XLR amp or mixer

If issue persists, take one pedal out a time to find the culprit.

One thing I’m confused about is when you don’t use the efx loop, why the distortion pedal “doesn’t come through”? It looks like The distortion pedal is right after the VPDI so it should work fine…

          hope this is helpful.

It does make sense. I went back to it and the distortion did work after I removed the effects loop stuff. I'll just run then all right after the VPDI and do it that way. I think it will accomplish what I'm wanting to do the same way. Thanks for the ideas
